How much will solar power save me?
- 1.5 KW system saves $456 per annum. If 30% feedback (into the grid) applies, this becomes $671
- 2 KW system saves $608 per annum. If 30% feedback applies, this becomes $895
- 2.5 KW system saves $760 per annum. If 30% feedback applies, this becomes $1,118
- 3 KW system saves $912 per annum. If 30% feedback applies, this becomes $1,342
Why should I bother installing a solar power system?
- Electricity costs are expected to outstrip inflation significantly
- You can reduce (or eliminate) your electricity bill
- Estimated Return on Investment (ROI) is better than any other option

How long until my solar panel system is installed?
- Within 4 weeks of signing up (Depends on availability of product)
How much power do your solar panel systems generate?
- a 1 KW system has an average daily production of 4.2 kW
- a 1.5 KW system has an average daily production of 6.4 kW
- a 2 KW system has an average daily production of 8.4 kW

Government Assistance Questions
What is a STC (previously REC)?
- A STC is a Small-scale Technology Certificate, an electronic form of currency.
- You are entitled to receive STCs when you install a solar power system as you will generate power from a renewable source.
- You usually assign this to the seller of the system, so that you receive an upfront discount to the value of the STCs (eg. $3,800 for a 1.5kW system).
What is a Solar Credit?
- It is a mechanism to increase the number of STC’s by a factor of 3
- This is to make purchasing solar power attractive and affordable
- The value to you is $3,800 off the purchase price of a 1.5KW System (at $40 per STC)
- This factor has been reduced to 3 for July 2011 to June 2012
Will Government assistance remain in place?
- The Government plans to give you around $1,200 less per year, until it runs out, by steadily reducing the factor of 5 down to 1.
What is a Feed-in Tariff?
- It is an arrangement, where you will be paid for any excess electricity that your household produces
- Excess electricity occurs when your solar system generates more electricity than the household is using at any instant
- Your Energy Provider should give you 50 cents/kwh (44 cents/kWh government guaranteed) – more than double the current charge
- Rewards are greater for energy efficient households
Solar Panel Installation Questions
How much roof space do I need for a solar panel system?
- 12 m² for a 1.5 KW system
- 16 m² for a 2 KW system
- 24m² for a 3 KW system
CB Solar can customise the panels to fit on your roof if necessary. We’ll discuss it with you when we complete the free site assessment.
How does shading affect solar panels and their efficiency?
Solar panels should ideally be in full sun from 9am to 3pm. Shading does have a direct negative impact on solar power output.
Do solar panels need to be facing a certain direction?
Ideally your panels should be facing north to produce the most electricity. East and west facing is okay, however south facing panels are not effective at all.
Do you use qualified solar panel installers?
All CB Solar Installers are licensed electricians, fully qualified and Clean Energy Council (CEC) accredited. All wiring is connected by a licensed electrician.
Can I use my current meter for solar power?
To gain maximum benefit from Feed In Tariffs, a new meter will be necessary. CB Solar will organise your new meter, which is provided for free from Energex.
Component Questions
Is ongoing maintenance required for my solar panel system?
Your solar panels will usually have the same tilt as your roof, ensuring that they are self-cleaned by natural rainfall. Still, an occasional wash-down will ensure optimum performance. It is possible that the inverter could need replacing after approximately 10 years.
Will my solar panel system heat my hot water?
Your solar panel system will not heat your hot water, however it will offset the power needed to heat your hot water.
Will my solar panel system eliminate power blackouts?
No, for your safety and that of electricity workers, your power will shut down when the grid shuts down.
Do solar power systems require a battery?
No, batteries are utilised on remote systems, that do not have Energex power lines available.
Will a hailstorm damage the system?
All our solar panels pass an Australian Standards test for hail damage. However it is advisable for you to add your system to your insured items.
