How much money will a solar panel system save me?

When researching a solar panel system for your home, it’s important to keep in mind your financial and energy-saving goals.  Are you looking to reduce your electricity bill or eliminate it all together?  You can then match the right solar panel system to your budget.

To determine which system is most appropriate for you, CB Solar have put together a quick guide.  Just match your annual bill with the ‘Annual Saving’ column to find the best system size for you.

To give you an example of estimated savings, one of our customers recently wrote to us, very happy with the savings and credit they received after installing a solar power system on the Gold Coast.

Dear Barrie,

After receiving my electricity bill for $890 in December 2009 and $676 in December 2010, it was great to receive a credit of $59 in December 2011 after the installation of our 5KW system. Prior to the system being installed we had analysed our electricity usage and made some changes around the house including saying goodbye to the garage fridge, bar fridge and upright freezer and welcoming a brand new 610 litre double door fridge that cost under $1,000 on sale and saving us around $300 per year in electricity. We still run a 50 litre electric hot water system for the ensuite which will be replaced with a heat pump hopefully this year.

We still run with some halogen downlights but we have replaced a few in areas that don’t require a real lot of brightness. We will replace the balance when we can find the right product at the right price. We still run the air conditioners on days that really need it and the bedroom fan is on most summer nights.

The goal is to create a credit of $250 per quarter so that next Christmas we can get a bonus cheque from our energy provider for $1,000 and save ourselves $2,500 – $3,000 per year of after tax money.

Installing a solar panel system for your home is a solid investment, particularly with the current government rebates and the Qld Feed In Tariff – which is the best in Australia.  By investing in a solar panel system now, you can reduce or eliminate your bill, and possibly get money back from your energy provider.

* Based on using 5 kWh’s of your daily production, and exporting the excess power.
